Team Nigeria continued its superb form in weightlifting events at Commonwealth Games when Oluwatoyin Adesanmi picked the country’s second gold medal in the women’s 63kg.
Adesanmi battled her compatriot, Obioma Okoli, who clinched silver with both of them having a total of 207 lifts while Punam Yadav from India got the bronze medal with a total lift of 202.
Nigeria has climbed to the 9th position on the medals table with two gold, three silver and a bronze medal.
Nigeria also qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 400 metres as Regina George clocked a time of 53.92 seconds in heat 1 to finish second behind Rasnayaka Mudiyanselage of Sri Lanka.
Joining her in the semi-finals is Omolara Omotosho. She also finished second in a time of 53.02 seconds in heat 4 with Jamaican, Stephanie Mcpherson, winning the heat.
Folashade Abugan completes the semi–final set up for Team Nigeria, finishing second in a time of 52.84 seconds in heat 5 while Amantle Monthso of Botswana won the race with 51.88 seconds.
Playing For Bronze In Table Tennis
Nigeria would be competing in the Men’s Table Tennis bronze medal match against India.
The team narrowly lost out to Singapore 3-1 in the semi-final tie of the men’s team event.
Since the competition started no team have won a game against Asian team, but Aruna Quadri defeated Jian Zhan 3-1 to dent that 100% record.
The women’s team could not go beyond the knockout stage despite managing to qualify from the group. They lost to Malaysia in the round of 16.
